    Marina Sobol

    Susan DeRyder

Discover a transformative experience with Marina Sobol and Susan DeRyder in this 4-day yoga and handpan retreat. The retreat's central themes are alignment and rhythm. To bring these to life, Marina and Susan utilize specific modalities that intricately and beautifully intertwine with each other: yoga, handpan and your our bodies as an instrumentYoga serves as a pathway to physical and inner alignment, enhancing your practice through breath, movement, and meditation. Meanwhile, the handpan provides a gentle soundscape for immersion and serves as a medium for creative expression through the study of the instrument.Throughout the retreat, Susan will lead yoga sessions that are suitable for all levels. The morning yoga classes are specifically curated to incorporate the elements; Earth to arrive and ground, Fire to activate, energize and awaken creativity, Water to discover ease, flow and fun in your journey. These classes will leave you feeling supported and inspired for the day ahead. The afternoon Yin Yoga sessions are designed for deep grounding so that you integrate the day's activities. The Yin Yoga will include breath practices to incorporate the element of air into the arc of your retreat. Susan’s intention is to bring yoga sequencing that complements and supports your time with the Handpan, emphasizing the balance of stability and ease.An integral component of the retreat is the handpan workshop designed for those encountering the instrument for the first time. Marina will guide us through the history of the handpan, tracing its evolution from its origins to the art form it is today.Participants learn how to approach the instrument and bring its sound to life through proper technique, starting with simple playing patterns and advancing to collaborative group play.Handpans are celebrated worldwide for their unique sound and versatility, but each is handmade, making them time-consuming and costly to acquire. This retreat offers a unique opportunity to explore the instrument, as handpans will be provided for your use.As we explore rhythm and expression through the handpan and movement and balance through yoga, we will also turn inward to discover another powerful instrument—our own body and its unique voice. The Voice Journey workshop is a form of vocal exploration that invites us to explore somatic awareness, breath, sound, and voice to connect with and uncover the instrument within. No singing experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to explore your body as an instrument in a supportive and freeing space.Join Marina and Susan for a 4-day immersion where yoga and handpan come together to create a unique journey of relaxation, alignment and the exploration of your musical potential.

She weaves her voice into her compositions, incorporating songs from various traditions and backgrounds. Marina teaches beginner level handpan, somatic voice practice and psychedelic/plant medicine integration/harm reduction.

Felix Vasserman – Musician / Handpan / Handpan NYC / Teacher

Felix Vasserman is one of the founders of the Handpan NYC Community. His passion for the instrument made it possible to bring this new magical sound to everyone who was touched by it either by encounter in Yoga class or simply hearing it for the first time on the streets of NYC. Felix has been learning from New York’s best handpan artists Miguel Santamaria and Adam Maalouf since 2015, and is a part of New York’s one and only Pangea handpan ensemble and Serene Vibrations duo. Both areas of study were philosophically and spiritually inclined and were taught in great depth by his professors, which brought much clarity to his life. In his studies of mystical traditions, Niko was deeply intrigued by the practice of meditation, internal exploration and understanding of one’s being. His desire for experience led him to the practice of yoga. Niko studied with Sri Dharma Mittra for his 200 hour certification and with Jhon Tamayo at Atmananda Yoga Sequence for his 500 hour certification. He started teaching in 2011 and his teaching journey continues to inspire him for more. The state of yoga is a state of natural well-being. The focus of yoga, as he teaches it, is to reclaim this natural state of alignment of one’s being.

He also has experience working with people with special needs, PTSD and AA groups.

Dan Mulqueen | Dan is an American multi-instrumentalist from New Jersey. Dan's music is centered around an instrument called the "Handpan", an instrument created in 2001 in Switzerland. Determined to push the limits of music revolving around this instrument, Dan's playing style is both beautifully melodic and intensely percussive. His stylistic approach invites the listener to experience elements of multiple genres of music all housed in one easily digestible format. While keeping the handpan as the centerpiece of his compositions, Dan's recordings also feature instruments such as upright bass, piano, electronic beats, guest vocals and more. Dan has over 18 years of percussion experience in genres like hip-hop, rock, reggae, trip-hop, electronic, blues and latin. When asked about how these genres inspire his writing process, Dan responded "...it's important to me to take my favorite elements of multiple genres and blend them into something different. You'd be really surprised how open people are to music when they can identify with even a tiny element of it." In addition to multiple solo tours across Australia, Europe and the USA, Mulqueen has also shared the stage with Shpongle for two sold out concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado and collaborated with artists such as Mereba, Long Arm, Zebbler Encanti Experience and many more. Mulqueen's fourth studio album "Real Life" was released on March 1st, 2020. No matter what kind of music you're into, Dan has something in his music catalog for you. His music spans across multiple genres and grabs the attention of both casual music listeners and die-hard music lovers. So kick back, relax, and enjoy the sounds of Dan Mulqueen and the handpan!

Prana Rising | New York based handpan artist, percussionist, and founder of Sound Artist Handpan & Creativie Music School NY – Prana believes that all people are born with the gift of expressing themselves through the joy and freedom of music. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music; Prana has spent more than a decade as a performer, teacher, and recording artist. Prana’s dedication to sharing handpan with the world has helped establish and grow the non-profit organization, Handpan NYC. They have introduced the handpan in countless performances throughout the tri-state area and have led more than 25  “introduction to handpan” workshops since 2019 on Long Island and across the 5 boroughs. Onstage, Prana combines orchestral-percussive and electronic soundscapes with handpan to craft original compositions that explore the expressive potential of the instrument and invite listeners on an inner journey. Offstage, Prana is growing Sound Artist’s vibrant handpan community by offering ensembles, private virtual and in-person mentorship, teacher-training programs, affordable handpan sales and rentals, as well as a series of forthcoming original music releases and online educational content.
